Man, it's hot outside these days. It's hard to believe that the end of summer is quickly approaching, and the lucky ones who are still in school are headed back there again. (No sarcasm intended... I do wish I was back in school, at least sometimes.) Well, I feel like I took a vacation from posting these blog entries, so maybe I'll just start pretending they're a weekly school assignment. ;)
Anyway, looks like I'm finally caught up with convention reports with this one...yay! Though I guess I shouldn't be too proud of myself, since AX was almost 2 months ago. There was a local con in SF this weekend, AOD (forever known as Anime OD even if the organizers decided to change what it stood for :P), but I ended up not being able to go. Those of you who went, feel free to post your opinions about it in the forums!
I found that I had a harder time deciding what to write about for this entry than previous ones-- I think because everything was pretty good overall. The whole dealer room thing went really smoothly for us this time, from setup all the way through to teardown and the roundtrip in the rental cargo van. I would not call the van streamlined (basically a giant box on wheels), but it was cool anyway.
Driving the cargo van was kind of interesting for me. It was the first time I'd driven something that huge-- I normally drive a hatchback. Well, it wasn't too much different, once I got used to being so much higher off the ground, the fact that it was an automatic (I normally drive manual cars), and the only way to check the blindspots around the van were through the mirrors (and/or getting help from the co-pilot).
Long Beach was a nice change over Anaheim (where AX was held last year); in particular, there seemed to be a lot more eating options in the surrounding area, and slightly less of a touristy feeling since it's not next to Disneyland.
Memory #2: Great panels, both of them.
I think we're finally starting to find our groove with these convention panels. Up until now, it's been somewhat hit-or-miss at some of the panels-- besides ACen, where for some reason it's always been good. We'll still be updating our panel content every year, and working on getting the right mix of content and entertainment. But I think we're getting better at figuring out what works and what doesn't, and managing our panel time more effectively.
I noticed that there were more repeat visitors to our booth and panel at AX, including a handful of people we also saw at Fanime just a couple weeks before AX. I'm sure I've blogged about this before, but we really enjoy it when we get to meet people at conventions who have been posting on our forums for a while. In this age of Internet anonymity, it's always neat to be able to match a name to a face. It really is one of the highlights of the cons for us.
Memory #3: $%^# you, SOS Brigade! :P
Well, I guess I can't really blame them for being so popular, and it's not really their fault that their concert got delayed and all that... I'm just bitter because a number of people who were planning to attend our Romance 101 panel couldn't, because they couldn't get there in time after the concert. And unfortunately this included the two people who had originally volunteered to record our panel for us, so we can't show you all the coolness that was our AX Romance 101 panel. Alas.
Anyway... back to work now. We had a very productive summer here at Okashi. As I'm sure you've heard us say before, the bottleneck on this project isn't the programming; it's the content, primarily art and writing. And we got a lot of content done over the summer... but there's still a lot to go, which just goes to show just how much content the finished game is going to have. Thanks to everyone who is patiently waiting for the release, and keeping in touch with us on our forums!
And thanks to everyone who has filled out our Windows survey so far. It will really help us focus our attention on the details and specifications that actually matter. Again, feel free to talk to us about it or ask us questions if you have any. We hope to get as many surveys as possible, so please help us spread the word about it. Thanks in advance to all. :D
I don't have much time to talk today, as this is one of my busy nights. After school, I have various club meetings to attend, followed by piano and violin practice several nights a week... it's an exhausting schedule, but that's how you get to be real good at something, right? lol. Lately I've been trying to decide if it would be more fun to try to learn Pathétique Sonata, or if I should work on perfecting Moonlight Sonata for my next recital. hhm, tough choice.
I guess I can take a moment to chat, though... if Aya can blog about her silly manga obsessions, then I'm sure someone out there would appreciate hearing about my experiences in Shira Oka as an exchange student, right?
So as I'm sure you all know, I'm from America. San Diego, California, to be exact. And while I thought I knew a lot about Japanese culture before I got here, experiencing it firsthand has been an entirely different thing! Sometimes the most subtle things get you, like how they don't have some of the snack foods I enjoyed back home (even the sandwiches at burger joints are different!) or how manners tend to be a bit different.
Aya here. I dont have a lot of time to talk but I just had to come and say a few things, which GRAHH hes drooling on my leg again!!
I’m watching my little siblings today and theyre being such a pain!! I wish Kiku would hurry up and get here already, I’m surrounded!!~
ANYWAY!! Ive been so busy lately! Ive been running around like a crazy woman doing this n that for my parents or Hiroshi or for clubs at school and I’m all obsessed with that new card game and my favorite mangaka just started a new series... remember this next time Kiku calls me lazy! Just cause I don’t have time to do my homework doesnt mean Im lazy!! In fact, Im reading all the time! Who says comic books arent educational?? Im learning lots about the complex social interactions between men and women and robots and important things like that! Way more important than finding the square root of water or whatever...
