Convention season UPDATE!

I hope you all had a good Memorial Day weekend. We spent Friday through Monday running a booth in the Dealers room at Fanime here in the Bay Area, and running our two panels (Romance 101 and a Shira Oka preview). It was nice to meet community members in our own area for a change, and both of our panels went surprisingly well (especially considering the experimental format of the second one).

Fortunately, someone in our audience taped the Romance 101 panel, so hopefully we'll be able to upload that sometime. For those who couldn't make it to the panel-- we used our in-game engine to run the presentation, with various characters from our game narrating the slides. Then we solicited the help of eight brave volunteers from our audience, to be voice actors for the characters... occasionally with hilarious results!

Also interesting to note, this was also the first convention where we were approached for a couple brief press interviews. I'll post more information about those when it's available.

A-Kon

This weekend will be our first time at A-Kon in Dallas, Texas. We have a space in the Exhibits Hall, which is in the area outside of the Dealers Room. Since A-Kon ends up being the weekend immediately after Fanime, we won't be shipping our full booth setup over there (to avoid paying exorbitant fees). We'll still be taking forum signups though, if anyone's interested.

Anime Expo

A month after A-Kon, we'll be at Anime Expo, which is being held in Long Beach, CA, this year. That should be a lot of fun. We'll be doing our Romance 101 panel on Saturday night, followed by the Shira Oka panel on Sunday night.

Otakon

And now we get to the bad news. After much deliberation, we have decided not to go to Otakon this year, to avoid burnout for our staff and save some money. Now don't take this the wrong way-- as much as we enjoy going to cons and meeting our community members face-to-face, it is pretty draining being in the Dealers room all day long, the entire weekend of a con.

That, and it takes time away from our game development. No, we don't have a separate marketing team just for cons...everyone you see at our booth actually works on the game in some way. Since Otakon is the farthest for us to travel, and the last one on our schedule, it was the most sensible one for us to drop.

Our apologies to anyone who was looking forward to seeing us there. Maybe next year...

Other cons this year? What about next year?

There's a slight chance that we might go to some of the smaller, local cons that come up, but we don't have any definite plans yet. Someone recently asked on our forums if we'll be back for next year's ACen. We can't guarantee anything about next year's cons at this point, but our schedule will probably be pretty similar to this year's unless something unexpected comes up.
